CASEY Brown continued his good form with a victory in Phoenix Fire Boxing Club's eighth and final tournament of the 2016/17 season in front of a capacity crowd at Eagle Sports Club.

Senior elite welterweight Brown secured a unanimous points win against Matthew Rennie from Salisbury ABC, Liverpool, in a contest of high skill levels.

Brown’s excellent defence and effective countering throughout was rewarded by the judges in one of 18 bouts featuring Phoenix Fire or Warrington Amateur Boxing Club fighters.

Senior elite light welterweight Courtney Chadwick prevailed in an excellent contest with Tower Hill’s Johnathon Walsh.

In another high-quality affair Chadwick kept one step ahead of his opponent throughout.

Ryan Lynskey, a senior elite welterweight, took the honours with a unanimous points decision against Joe Moylan from North Mersey ABC in a competitive battle awarded bout of the night by the officials.

Youth female light welterweight Amber Leyland was awarded the boxer of the night after her contest with Summer Ward from Doncaster Plant was terminated in the third round, due to an injury to Ward’s nose.

Junior boxers Niall Gallagher, 14, 62kg, and Dylan Hale, 15, 56kg, both won points decisions in excellent encounters against older opponents from Nottingham Phoenix ABC – Fraser Deabill, 64kg, and Chris Taylor, 56kg.

Schoolboys Mason Woodford, 10, 42kg, and Kory Smith, 10, 28kg, impressed in their bouts, showing skill levels beyond their years with unanimous points decisions against Harry Rigby, 10, 41kg, from Wildcard ABC, and Joel Jarrett, 10, 29kg, from Bredbury ABC.

Warrington ABC senior development heavyweight Damian Lyon won a unanimous points decision against Andrew Willacy from Blackpool Kingscote.

Phoenix boxers Owen Dodd, 14, 56kg, impressed in a close points loss to Daniel Brown from Sale West, while Yassin Khan did likewise in a split decision reversal to Patrick Gallagher from Technique.

Alfie Leyland, Harvey Turner, Ross Hill, Leon Prescott, Freya Littlemore and George Ruffley all impressed in no-decision skill bouts.
