ORFORD will end the season with silverware after winning the Northern Cup on Saturday.

After going ahead in the final, which was played at South Liverpool FC, the Cheshire League Two side found themselves 2-1 down to Wigan League outfit Leigh Foundry.

However, an Orford equaliser took the tie to penalties and they kept their nerve to win the shoot-out 4-2 and secure the trophy.

They finished their league season on Tuesday night with a heavy 8-1 defeat at league champions Windle Labour.

In the Cheshire Premier Division, Guardian Cup winners Greenalls PSO put in a blistering first-half display to secure a 3-0 victory over high-flying Linotype Cheadle.

Ellis Houghton, Ryan Rowland and Ben Slater all scored before the break for Greens at Long Lane on Saturday.

They were due to host Crewe last night, Wednesday, in their final game of the season.

Eagle Sports are in pole position to finish as the highest-ranked Warrington side in the Cheshire League after they finished their season with a 0-0 draw with Knutsford at Thornton Road.

They are three points clear of Rylands, for whom a late Joel Brownhill goal was not enough to prevent a 4-1 defeat at Denton Town on Saturday.

The Gorsey Lane outfit were due wrap up their season last night, Wednesday, at relegation-threatened Rudheath Social, and a win would have seen them finish above Eagle due to their superior goal difference.

“Denton wanted it more than us on Saturday and deserved their victory,” boss Darren Davies said.

“Rudheath are fighting for survival so we know that we’re in for a tough game.

“It’s important for us to try and finish the season with a win.”

In League One, Warrington Town reserves missed out on the title after they were pipped to the trophy by Billinge.

Steve Hayes’ side played their final game back on April 27 and, having already secured promotion, knew they would win the title if their St Helens-based rivals failed to win their last three games However, Saturday’s 4-1 win over Mersey Valley meant Billinge finished a point clear of Hayes’ men.
