AN excellent run chase helped Warrington get their season off on the right note with a five-wicket win over Macclesfield.

Batting first, the visitors set Richard Heaney’s side a victory target of 215 after South African all-rounder Johan Els and Rob Batey had led the Warrington attack with three wickets each.

In reply, Brad McIntosh was Warrington’s hero as he smashed 78 as the mainstay of the innings as they won with two overs to spare.

Meanwhile, the club’s seconds controlled their game at Bramhall from the start after bowling their hosts out for 120.

Rishav Manta took 5-23 and Isaac Webster 4-19 as Warrington were set an easy target, which they reached thanks to 59 from Brad Roden.

The thirds were also successful as they recorded an eight-wicket victory over Barrow’s seconds.

Raj Soni led the bowling attack with 3-29 as the hosts reached 133-9 before Billy Gilbert, 47 not out, and Dave Lee, 46, helped Warrington to comfortably reach their target.

Warrington’s firsts will look to back up their win as they travel to Marple on Sunday, while Saturday sees the seconds and thirds host Bowdon and Oxton respectively at Warrington Sports Club.
