WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden was critical of referee Richard Holmes’ performance in Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Spennymoor Town, saying he “completely spoiled the game.”

Glen Taylor scored in either half to bring Yellows five-match winning streak to an end and drop them out of the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off places on goal difference.

The visitors’ first goal came seconds after Town full-back Mitch Duggan had a strong-looking penalty appeal turned down, just one of Holmes’ decisions that angered the home players and management.

“I hate moaning about officials but you can’t look at the game and think he hasn’t had an impact,” Carden said.

“He hasn’t put the ball in our net but I think he just completely spoiled the game.

“The first goal has come from a definite foul on Mitch Duggan. He was still on the floor, they took a quick goal kick and all of a sudden it’s in the back of our net.

“The Spennymoor manager went up to him after the game and said he’d had an excellent game which shocked me a bit. I think it may have been tounge-in-cheek.

“As I say, I really don’t like moaning about referees but this one has had an impact tonight.”
