WOLVES travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium tomorrow, Friday, looking to avoid their worst ever start to a league campaign.

Standing in their way are near neighbours St Helens, who themselves are recovering from a sketchy start to Super League 2017.

We take a detailed look at Friday's opponents in Opposition Corner.

STORY SO FAR:

AFTER a slow start to the season, St Helens are starting to show signs of igniting their push for Super League honours.

Victory over Leeds in the campaign’s opening game was followed by defeats to Leigh, Wakefield and Hull FC as calls for head coach Keiron Cunningham to leave started to intensify again.

However, a 28-24 win in a thrilling game at Catalans showed Saints are capable of mixing it with the league’s top sides.

TEAM NEWS:

On paper at least, their side will be strengthened by the return of Matty Smith, who crossed back over the divide from fierce rivals Wigan in the off-season.

A broken leg in pre-season has delayed his second debut until now and his partnership with Theo Fages has the potential to be as fruitful as the one he had with George Williams at the DW Stadium.

Around him, the additions of Adam Walker and Luke Douglas have added muscle up front, while the vastly experienced Zeb Taia has been brought in to replace Joe Greenwood, who has moved to Gold Coast Titans in the NRL.

However, England full-back Jonny Lomax will miss Wolves’ visit with a knee injury, so Tommy Makinson is set to continue in the full-back role.

Saints squad: Tommy Makinson, Ryan Morgan, Mark Percival, Adam Swift, Theo Fages, Matty Smith, Alex Walmsley, James Roby, Kyle Amor, Jon Wilkin, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Luke Douglas, Adam Walker, Tommy Lee, Dominique Peyroux, Greg Richards, Jack Owens, Jack Ashworth, Zeb Taia.

PREDICTED TEAM:

Makinson; Owens, Morgan, Percival, Swift; Fages, Smith; Walmsley, Roby, Douglas, Taia, Peyroux, Wilkin. Subs: McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Lee, Walker, Amor.
