HARRIET Knowles-Jones produced a stunning performance to bring home a gold medal from Saturday’s English National Cross Country Championships.

The Warrington Athletics Club runner destroyed her opposition to take victory in the women’s Under 20s race in 22mins 3secs.

Knowles-Jones finished 45 seconds clear of the second-placed runner and recorded the largest winning margin of the whole day at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park.

Victory continues the 18-year-old’s fantastic start to 2017 after recording victories at the Northern Cross Country Championships and the Great Edinburgh Cross Country International.

Elsewhere at the same meeting, Joe Buckley and Jordan Jones ran well in the boy’s Under 15s race, finishing 31st and 48th respectively.

Clubmates Jack Stubbings, 76th, and Sam Rostron, 86th, raced in the men’s Under 17s event along with debutant Jack Wadsworth, who came home 240th.

On the road, Nick Jones made sure Warrington Athletics Club finished the weekend with two more national champions at the Netherhall 10-mile road race in Cumbria, which incorporated the British Masters Championships.

After battling through the horrendous conditions brought on by Storm Ewan, Jones’ time of 56mins 7secs was good enough for third place overall, but he was first of the Masters competitors to cross the line.

Two Warrington athletes also travelled to Sheffield for the National Indoor Age Group Championships over the weekend.

On Saturday, Fisayo Williamson-Taylor came third in his 60m heats in 7.07secs. That ensured his progress to the semi final, but his time of 7.08secs in that race was only good enough for sixth place.

Sunday saw Cameron Meakin make the final of the 60m hurdles, finishing third in his heat in 8.25secs before recording 8.35secs in the final to finish eighth.
