WARRINGTON Rowing Club’s Lucy Glover performed well in esteemed company as she made the step up to senior level on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who attends the Sixth Form at Lymm High School, can no longer compete at world junior level due to a technicality but attended the senior GB Trials in Boston.

Glover came an impressive 10th place in a women’s single scull 5km time trial field that included Vicky Thornley, a silver medallist in the women’s double at last summer’s Rio Olympics, and former world junior champions Jess Leyden.

She was also the fastest under 20s rower on the water and the third-fastest in the under 23s category behind Leyden and Katy Wilkinson-Feller.

“Lucy has done ridiculously well. There were around 40 women there who have rowed to a high standard,” Warrington Rowing Club chairman Richard Sinnott said.

“She probably should have come about third last, so to come 10th is absolutely ridiculous as there weren’t that many people missing.”

It is thought Glover will now target a place in the Great Britain team for the World Under 23s Rowing Championships, which takes place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in July.
