TOMORROW sees Wolves kick off their 2017 Super League campaign with a trip to Perpignan to face Catalans Dragons.

They have a very good recent record against the French side, winning 11 of their last 12 meetings with them including each of the last five.

OPPOSITION CORNER: Revamped Dragons carry threat of the unknown.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, we take a look back at the last five meetings between Wolves and the Dragons:

CATALANS 22 WOLVES 26: Saturday, September 3, 2016:

BESET by injuries and still suffering from the previous week’s devastating Challenge Cup Final loss to Hull FC, Wolves fans made the trip to France in hope rather than expectation.

Tony Smith handed some of the club’s younger players, including Dec Patton and Jack Johnson, the chance to shine and they grabbed it with both hands.

A sensational first half saw Patton cross twice either side of a Kevin Penny score to give them an 18-0 lead.

The hosts surged back as tries from Vince Duport, ex-Wire Richie Myler and Benjamin Garcia wiped out the lead before Tony Gigot’s penalty nudged them ahead.

However, a 77th minute score from Ben Currie sealed a memorable win for Wolves.

WOLVES 20 CATALANS 18, Friday, June 17, 2016:

THE boot was on the other foot at The Halliwell Jones Stadium earlier in 2016 as Wolves clawed back a half-time deficit to grind out a nervy win.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until Kurt Gidley kicked a penalty late on to seal the win.

Ryan Atkins, Kevin Penny and Brad Dwyer crossed for The Wire, with Julien Bousquet and Fouad Yaha’s tries keeping Catalans in touch as well as five Pat Richards goals.

CATALANS 20 WOLVES 30, Saturday, March 12, 2016:

ON the verge of their best ever start to a Super League season, Wolves travelled south in high spirits but were given the sternest of examinations.

They also had to recover from the loss of Mitchell Dodds to a broken leg in what turned out to be his final Wolves appearance before making it five wins out of five.

It was done the hard way, with Catalans leading 20-12 with 20 minutes left thanks to tries from Todd Carney, Pat Richards, who also kicked four goals, and Vince Duport, with Rhys Evans and Ben Currie replying for The Wire.

However, Evans’ second try sparked a comeback and scores in the last ten minutes from Chris Sandow and George King capped off the recovery.

WOLVES 48 CATALANS 6, Saturday, September 19, 2015:

2015 was mostly a year to forget for Wolves, but a faithful servant was able to go out with a bang.

In his final home game for the club, Australian winger Joel Monaghan ran in a hat-trick of tries as The Wire dismantled their French visitors, whose only points came courtesy of a Stan Robin try late on.

Before that, Monaghan’s exploits were supplemented by two tries each from Ryan Atkins and Jack Johnson, while Ben Currie and Richie Myler, also on his last Halliwell Jones appearance for the club, grabbed one each.

There was even time for big Roy Asotasi to kick a conversion to round off a superb day.

WOLVES 26 CATALANS 18, Friday, June 5, 2015:

THIS was another case of Wolves showing what they could have been capable of in a frustrating season.

After tries from Ben Currie and Ryan Atkins, with Tony Gigot replying for the Dragons, gave Wolves a half-time lead, Eloi Pelissier and Elliot Whitehead crossed to overhaul it.

However, back came Wolves again as Atkins and Currie got one more each either side of a try for Chris Hill.
