WOLVES have provided an update on the condition of their four injured players ahead of the new season.

Chris Hill (hernia and shoulder), Stefan Ratchford and Ben Currie (both knee) are all undergoing rehabilitation separately from the rest of the squad on their pre-season training camp in Tenerife, while Kevin Penny (ankle) has not travelled with the squad after undergoing an operation on Wednesday.

“Ben Currie had a three-month review with a surgeon in London two weeks ago and he was very happy with his progress,” head of performance services Ben Stirling said.

“From a rehab point of view that means he can do a whole lot more with our focus being on building his muscle girths back up and his leg strength.

“He’ll be able to do two to three weeks’ worth of work in the next 10 days which is good for him.

“He’s responding really well with no complaints and is looking good.”

Skipper Hill was ruled out of the season opener against Catalans by head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith and Stirling says the England prop is making good progress in his recovery.

“With his hernia he’s ticked all the boxes he needs to in order to return to sport so if he didn’t need his shoulder to recover he’d be in full training,” he said.

“He’s just started to do upper body weights and his rehab is a lot more intensive. He did his first swim on Wednesday which he was very pleased with.”

Ratchford underwent surgery to repair a tear in his lateral meniscus during the off-season and is set to be out until March.

“Stef has just come off his non weight bearing crutches which he was pleased about and has had no issues since getting rid of them,” Stirling said.

“His rehab is of a similar nature to Ben and is on track.”

Meanwhile, the likes of Brad Dwyer, Dec Patton (both wrist), Matty Blythe (shoulder) and Ben Westwood (pectoral and shoulder) all returned to full contact training on Wednesday.

George King didn't make the trip to Tenerife for family reasons, though he has also mentioned on social media this week that he currently has mumps.
