BEN Westwood believes there is one man who will benefit from Warrington Wolves’ training camp in Tenerife the most.

That player is Kevin Brown, who Westwood has described as bringing a touch of “Brett Hodgson” to The Wire line-up this season.

Half-back Brown is the final piece of Tony Smith’s 2017 jigsaw, arriving from Widnes Vikings as the replacement for homesick Australian Chris Sandow.

And Westwood, two weeks into full training after pre-season surgery, is already enjoying seeing at close hand what Brown can add to the line-up as a key figure in the fresh bid for trophy success.

“For the past week and half I’ve been with the full squad and everyone’s looking strong,” said the 35-year-old forward ahead of his 15th full season in primrose and blue colours.

“Everyone has a dig every year and I’m looking forward to getting on the field in Tenerife and getting some skills done.

“Tenerife is about having the squad together for 10 days. We’ll be in each other’s pockets, getting to know each other better in terms of the new guys.

“I think the main aim is being able to get on the field two or three times a day and really put in some hard work, getting the ball in our hands and start planning for what we want to do this season.

“It’s perfect for Kevin Brown.

“The weather in Warrington hasn’t been very good, the pitches aren’t playable sometimes.

“So for him to get out with the boys, do his thing, and for the players to get used to how he plays, these 10 days especially for him are vital because when we get back the season’s not far off starting and we want to start off well.”

He expects to see differences in Wolves’ style of play this year, with Brown and Sandow being different types of players in the half-back role and the Wire veteran can see comparisons to the club’s former Lance Todd Trophy winning full-back Hodgson.

“Chrissie was off-the-cuff a lot, whereas Kev’s more of a structured player.

“It will be interesting to see us with a bit more structure, a bit more about us and probably asking a few more questions.

“And it will be interesting to see how teams are going to cope with us now that we’ve got Kevin there.

“From what I’ve seen over the past week or so, he’s been really impressive with his passing game, his knowledge, the correct pass to play.

“Nine times out of 10 he picks the right pass and it’s a bit like the style of Brett Hodgson.

“When Brett came in round the back you knew he was going to hit the right man. He’s a bit like that but from the stand-off position.”

The Wolves squad fly out to Tenerife this morning.
