REACHING the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-offs will be “a big ask” for Warrington Town but chairman Toby Macormac is happy with the direction the club is heading in.

The Yellows currently sit 15th in the table in what is their first season at this level, nine points adrift of the play-off places.

Town still have 21 games to play and Macormac says there is little room for many more slip-ups.

“We’re still aiming for the play-offs but we know it is a big ask from where we are,” he said.

“You can’t really lose any more than 14 games to make it into the play-offs and we’ve already lost 11.

“Going for the rest of the season losing only two or three more games will be tough but we’ll give it our best shot.”

Macormac first became involved with the club in 2009 and, since becoming chairman, has spoken of his ambition to see the club in the Football League.

They took the first step towards that goal last season by winning the Evo-Stik First Division North in record-breaking style.

For that reason, Macormac says 2016 is a year that will live long in the memory.

“I’m really happy with the state of the club at the moment. You only have to look at how far we’ve come in the space of a year to see that,” he said.

“We’re at the highest level we’ve ever been at and we’re well-equipped to go higher.

“Of course, there’s been a few challenges this season but we’ve got to be happy overall with how things are going.”

Town started the season with Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith sharing managerial duties, but the duo parted company with the club on October 15, immediately after a home loss to Workington.

Former Rochdale, Chester and Cambridge midfielder Paul Carden was appointed to succeed them on October 26 and Macormac said he is pleased with what he has brought to Cantilever Park alongside his coaching team of Mark Beesley and Craig Robinson.

“Paul’s been here for around 10 weeks now and is starting to get to know the place a lot better,” he said.

“The calibre of players we’ve been able to bring in has gone up significantly. You only have to look at Rory McKeown, who was only here for a short while but has earned himself a contract with Southport.

“People will say it’s a lack of continuity but it does show what kind of player we’re able to attract now.

“The lads are also getting a lot fitter because of what Paul’s brought into training and it’s starting to show on the pitch.

“Results have been indifferent but I’ve got every confidence in the guys to put together a solid run to challenge at the top of the table.”

After almost three weeks without a game, Warrington are due to return to action with a trip to relegation-threatened Corby Town on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
