EAGLE Sports picked up a significant result on Saturday as the Cheshire League returned to regular action after the Christmas period.

Mark Boardman’s side belied their position near the bottom of the Premier Division as they picked up a 4-2 victory at title-chasers Wythenshawe Town.

Chris Quirk led the way with two goals, while Alex Briscoe and Adam Deakin were also on target to give them a three-point cushion over the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, fellow Premier Division side Greenalls PSO were in Guardian Cup action and progressed to the fourth round as goals from Alex Hardman, Daniel Toone and Gavin Horner gave them a 3-1 win at Blackbrook.

Rylands were meant to return to Premier Division action on Saturday, but heavy fog saw their trip to Rudheath Social postponed.

In League One, Warrington Town reserves saw their game with Lostock Gralam at Cantilever Park abandoned due to a serious injury to a visiting player.

Steve Hayes’ side had come back from 2-0 down to level the scores thanks to a Dylan Glass double before the game had to be cut short with just over 15 minutes left to play when Grey Lambs defender Jake Glimond suffered a broken leg.

Daten were beaten 2-0 at Golborne Sports, while a goal from Paul Hulmes was not enough to stop bottom side Grappenhall Sports falling to a 5-1 defeat at Halebank.

Moore United also lost as they went down to a 2-1 reverse at Broadheath Central in League Two, with Sam Chaddock on the scoresheet for Moore, while Orford’s JA Walton Challenge Cup tie with FC St Helens was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
