IT is with sadness that I report the death of Joe Myers, from Trough House Farm.

Our condolences go out to his wife, Christine, and the rest of his family.

Members that fish our stretch of the River Ribble will be aware that due Joe’s kindness, who was both an accomplished angler and long-time association member, they were able to fish the upstream section because he allowed them to park their vehicles for free in his farmyard.

After he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, before Christmas last year, it is the measure of the man that he was concerned the arrangement should continue.

That action touched me; he was thinking about others at such a time.

The result? In the past week a new car park, which we share with Prince Albert Angling Society, was duly completed.

Due to a fall in entries, Mersey Series matches on a Saturday have been put on hold.

They will be reinstated if a sufficient number of members are interested.

Our Sunday fixtures will continue to take place, but with a revised draw time of 9.45am.

Weights were predictably low once again this week and, as this is a time of the year when catching small fish on a quiver tip comes into play, it was no surprise to see last week’s winner – the tip-master himself Paul Harding – register another success.

He fished a groundbait feeder and maggot for an all-roach catch of 3-6-0.

The runner-up was Roy Everson, fishing the same method for 2-15-0.

The fish were tightly-shoaled, and the top-four anglers were each bang on the money.

This week’s disabled and over 60s match, fished again on the Dead Length, saw Derek Bibby celebrate a victory with an all-roach catch of 4-13-6.

With the onset of colder weather, and a possibility that fisheries will iced over, the number of reports I receive from members understandably falls.

If you don’t mind sharing news of your catches – they really do help your fellow members – then email details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or call me on 01928 716238.

Our association’s headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 8.30pm, for memberships, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any queries.
