LYMM Hockey Club’s ladies first team came unstuck at the weekend when they were defeated by a strong Newcastle University side.

The first half promised much for the hosts and they kept pace with the Tynesiders, who pulled away after the break with a dominant second-half display.

Jess Sutton and Nat Riley got on the scoresheet for Lymm, but Newcastle hit three fast-break scores after half-time to secure a 5-2 victory.

The ladies’ third team fared better as they drew their home game against Bowdon fifths.

After spending most of the first 20 minutes pressurising the visiting defence, an opening goal proved elusive for Lymm.

Midfielder Lynne Pyman finally scored with a calmly-taken strike to break the deadlock.

However they were made to pay for chances missed when Bowdon equalised and the game finished as a 1-1 draw.

The ladies second and fourth teams both enjoyed 1-0 home victories over Bowdon fourths and Wrexham Glyndwr seconds respectively.

Sadly, however, all of the club’s men’s teams were on the end of defeats with the thirds succumbing to a particularly punishing 13-0 reverse to their Macclesfield counterparts on home turf.

The firsts were edged out 3-2 by Bowdon thirds, while the seconds were comfortably dispatched 5-0 by Sandbach firsts.
