WOLVES stand-off Kurt Gidley says confidence around the club is “sky-high” ahead of the Super League semi final against St Helens tonight, Thursday.

Gidley is set to return to the fold for the clash at The Halliwell Jones Stadium after missing Friday’s 23-6 win at Hull FC with a hamstring strain.

The 34-year-old praised the spirit within the squad but says they have moved on quickly to focus on this week’s game.

“The Hull game was a great thing to be a part of despite the fact I couldn’t play,” he said.

“To be a part of the celebrations was an unbelievable feeling and it was a great achievement for us as a club.

“It’s a pat on the back for being consistent, we’re all proud of it but we’ve moved on pretty quickly and concentrated on Saints.

“We’ve showed so much character in recent weeks, we were all disappointed after Wembley but we had to move on and we have done. Confidence is sky-high throughout the club.

"We’ve responded really well, it can take a lot out of you physically and mentally but the young guys have come in and done a fantastic job for us."

Saints arrive at The Halliwell Jones Stadium with a record of 18 wins from 19 trips to the ground.

However, Gidley believes Wolves are in for a tough encounter regardless of their wretched home record against their near neighbours.

"You’re always going to come up against quality sides at the stage of the competition and you have to expect a tough game," he said.

"We’ve had some tough clashes against Saints already this season and we’re prepared for another one.

"Having the bulk of the fans trying to give you the extra one per cent boost is always going to help you along."

The former Newcastle Knights man has enjoyed a successful first year in Super League and was named in the competition’s Dream Team, but he says winning at Old Trafford would mean so much more.

“It’s nice to be recognised on a personal level but I enjoy team achievements a lot more,” he said.

“We’re all here to reach the Grand Final and that would be the perfect way to round off the season.”
