St Benedicts 25 Warrington 7

WARRINGTON head coach Andy Roberts says his side made life difficult for themselves in their defeat to St Benedicts on Saturday.

The reverse in Cumbria, their third in a row, leaves them ninth in the North One West table after a month in which all four games were played away from home.

“Coming to Cumbria is always hard, although today I think we made it hard for ourselves,” Roberts said.

“We had everything in our favour in the second half, apart from the injuries.

“We had to significantly reorganize, but we seemed to lose aggression and initiative.”

After storming to promotion from the North Lancs/Cumbria division last season, the hosts have continued their momentum but Warrington matched them stride for stride early on.

However, after Max Caldwell misjudged a speculative kick, Kyle Hiddleston scooped up the loose ball to score the first try of the afternoon between the sticks for the hosts.

After the hosts kicked a 40-yard penalty, Warrington got themselves on the board when a superb passing move led to Elliot Johnstone scampering home from 30 yards, with Ben Hockenhull adding the conversion.

Sadly, though, this was as good as it got despite the visitors having a strong wind in their favour in the second half.

Andrew Middleton ran in two tries as the hosts cantered away to victory in the second half.

Warrington play their long-awaited first home game of the season on Saturday when they welcome Kirby Lonsdale to Walton Lea Road, kick off 3pm.

A YOUNG Warrington side proved no match for their more-experienced opponents on Saturday.

They took the lead when talented half-back Ben Dixon showed excellent pace to sprint over the whitewash.

The visitors were just seven points in arrears at the break, but a devastating 20-minute spell saw Blackburn take the game away from them.
