WARRINGTON thrower Gemma Prescott is celebrating another Paralympic medal as she added a bronze to her collection in Rio.

The 32-year-old, a former pupil at Great Sankey High School, scooped the bronze medal in the F32 club throw on Friday.

Prescott sealed the medal with a throw of 19.77 metres at the Estadio Olimpico, just enough to beat teammate Abbie Hunnisett to a medal.

Ranked as Britain’s number one club thrower, Prescott also won bronze in London four years ago as well as silver at the European Championships in June.

Former Warrington Athletics Club runner Alison Patrick also joined ParalympicsGB’s medal rush as she took an excellent silver medal in the women’s PT5 triathlon.

Competing alongside her guide Hazel Smith, Patrick was able to take second place behind Australia’s Katie Kelly. Patrick’s teammate Melissa Reid took the bronze medal.

Elsewhere in Rio, sailor Niki Birrell also has a medal to celebrate after he won bronze in his event.

A former Lymm High School pupil, the 30-year-old and crewmate Alexandra Rickham finished third in the two-person SKUD class.

The duo, who also took bronze in the same category in London, started the final day of competition on Friday in third place and did just enough to hold off Poland.

Australia, 2012 gold medallists, successfully defended their title while Canada took silver.

Woolston resident John Stubbs MBE could not add to his team silver medal as he fell short in the individual men’s open compound archery competition.

The 51-year-old lost out to the eventual bronze medallist, Australia’s Jonathon Milne, in the last 16.
