Mickleover Sports 1 Warrington Town 0

WARRINGTON Town had a mixed week of action in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after their five-game unbeaten league run was brought to an end on Tuesday.

Defeat in Derbyshire was compounded by injuries to striker Ben Deegan as well as defenders Mike Grogan and Jay McCarten.

New signings Pete Wylie and Simon Lenighan made their debuts in the loss that sees Warrington sit eighth in the table.

The hosts, featuring ex-Premier League striker Clinton Morrison, made an assured start in the first half and the Yellows were thankful to goalkeeper Karl Wills for making several important saves.

He made a superb reactionary stop when going the other way to deny Kevin Grocott and keep the game scoreless at the break.

Mickleover broke through in the second period when Morrison fed Andy Dales to smash home the winner.

Town: Wills, Grogan (Wylie), Nicholas, Ventre, McCarten (Harries), Shaw, Codling, Kinsella, Kilheeney, Deegan (Lenighan), Metcalfe. Subs not used: O’Donnell, Winder.

BEFORE their defeat to Mickleover, the Yellows had produced their first away victory of the season and exacted sweet revenge on Grantham Town.

The Lincolnshire outfit had beaten Stuart Mellish’s side at Cantilever Park last month, but were defeated this time.

The hosts held the lead at half-time when Jay McCarten blocked a shot and Luke Shaw slammed home the rebound.

Town pulled level when Ciaran Kilheeney tapped home after Ben Deegan knocked down a corner.

Then, with barely a minute remaining, the Yellows skipper grabbed the winner when he converted Deegan’s pull-back.
