WARRINGTON were left to rue the failure of their batsmen to make big totals as they slipped to a four-wicket home defeat to Bollington.

Captain Richard Heaphy lost the toss and Warrington were put into bat, but he and Malcolm Agar made a solid start before both fell with the score on 40.

Plenty of the hosts’ batsmen got off to good starts but none went on to make a game-changing score.

James Rudd top-scored with 32 as the hosts were bowled out for a modest 163.

The bowlers made a good fist of defending the total and Bollington were made to work hard for their runs, with Rob Batey leading the way with figures of 2-34.

However, the visitors reached their target with three overs left.

Warrington return to action with a trip to Weaverham on Saturday.

The seconds fell to a nine-wicket defeat at Stockport.

Brad Roden made 56 as the visitors posted 163-9, with some late-order resistance getting them up to a defendable total but the hosts reached it comfortably as the only wicket came via a run-out.

The thirds fared much better as they were on the right side of a nine-wicket scoreline at Winsford, with Dave Lee hitting 58 not out to see them home along with contributions from Ian Sleigh (48) and Billy Gilbert (46 not out).

The seconds host Brooklands on Saturday while the thirds travel to Bunbury.
