Lymm 21 Redingensians Rams 22.

LYMM undertook their latest test in preparation for the new season with a narrow defeat to National Two South outfit Redingensians at Beechwood.

With only10 of last season’s first-team regulars available, the hosts were up against it.

However the opening exchanges were evenly contested before a try from a five-metre scrum put the visitors ahead.

Their lead was doubled shortly afterwards with a try in the left corner but Lymm soon found their feet.

Scrum-half Tom Baker crossed close to the posts for their first try, giving Cormac Nolan an easy conversion.

Close-season recruit Joe Denham was proving to be a dangerous runner at full-back, and it was from his break that Lymm eventually took a half-time lead.

He got the hosts into the opposition 22 and, after a scrum was awarded, Adam Bray rumbled over and Nolan’s conversion made it 14-10 at the break.

Redingensians re-took the lead ten minutes after the break with a converted try, but their advantage did not last long.

Bray stole a lineout before quick hands allowed Alastair Wealthall to go over between the posts.

The visitors cranked up the pressure afterwards, and a try in the final seconds stole victory.

Lymm are next in action tomorrow, Friday, when they travel to Sale FC in the Cheshire Cup quarter finals, kick off 8pm.
