WOLVES boss Tony Smith said his side were “unstoppable” after they beat Wakefield Trinity Wildcats to secure a place in next month’s Challenge Cup final.

The Wire ran in 10 tries as they demolished Chris Chester’s side to advance to the Wembley showpiece against league leaders Hull FC on August 27.

Smith heaped praise on several of his team’s key players and said a trip to the national stadium was “just reward” for everyone at the club.

“I’m delighted for our team and our club, it's been a little while since we've been to a major final,” he said.

"Those who have been working hard behind the scenes as we've rebuilt, I'm really delighted for them to reward them with another Wembley visit.

“Our support was incredible, I'm over the moon for them. They can laugh at themselves and have some banter, I really like that about our support and I'm really looking forward to their big day out.

“There was a number of very good performers, Chrissy Sandow was right up there. Some of the things he did were top drawer.

“Matty Russell was outstanding getting us out of dummy half, they knew he was coming but they still couldn't catch him. Ryan Atkins was superb as well, he’s playing some really good rugby league.

“The forwards were good, Jack Hughes was excellent and Ashton was strong.

“Clarky was really hurting them early in the match but it was a chance to get some people off the park and rest them up ahead of Thursday.”

Wakefield took an early lead through Craig Hall but Wolves stormed back with 52 unanswered points to seal a crushing win at Leigh Sports Village.

“It was a good performance all round, we started strong and looked like we were going to execute our game plan pretty well,” Smith said.

“We dominated the middle part of the field. The ruck speed was good today and we worked very hard.

“When you work harder you get luckier, it was a great effort from the boys and they executed the plan well.

“It was a dominant performance, good on Wakefield for their courageous effort and I wish them well but there was no stopping our boys today.”
