WOOLSTON Rovers will face Rylands Sharks in the final of the Stuart Middleton Foundation Cup after seeing off Bank Quay Bulls.

The 46-12 win for John Fieldhouse's side on Wednesday evening ensures their place in the showpiece final, which takes place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on August 24.

This comes after Rovers closed the gap on neighbours Crosfields in the National Conference League Division Three as they recorded a superb 50-24 win at Waterhead with a squad of only 15 players due to illness on Saturday.

Ryan Brown opened the scoring in the right corner before Chris Mellor held off three defenders to score the second try.

Waterhead got on the board through Peter Davies before Mitchell Birch scored to edge the hosts ahead.

Sean Conway crossed just before the break for Rovers, who moved clear in the second half.

Australian centre Justin Becker crossed four times in the second half, with further Rovers tries coming from Sam Vernon and Lewis Hoarty to make Ciaran Dean’s brace for Waterhead immaterial.

After the game, Fieldhouse called for more of the same in this weekend’s clash with Eastmoor Dragons.

“We were absolutely outstanding at Waterhead apart from a couple of lapses of concentration and hopefully we can continue in the same vein this weekend,” he said.

“We know this will be a tough game after our close victory at their place but with both sides now playing considerably better it promises to be an absolute cracker.”
