RYLANDS Sharks have announced that head coach Matt Wilson will step down from his role at the end of the 2016 season.

Wilson, who is in his second spell as head coach of the club, took up the role in 2013 and will continue to take the club forward in the role of chairman next season.

The Sharks also announced the coaching duo of Eddie Harris and Anthony Braide will take over the reins for next season.

“I am honoured and privileged to of been given the opportunity to coach these players and be the head coach of this amazing club,” Wilson said.

“I like to think I will be stepping down as coach with the club in a much better place than it was when I took over coaching.

“The reason for my decision is that I have given it my best shot and hopefully everyone can see that I have been involved on field as a player and a coach for over 27 years now and walking away from that is not a decision I have made on a whim.

“My job now is to make sure the Eddie and Ant are coaching a team in the NCL division 2 and division 3 – with promotion still a real possibility this year I will be doing everything in my power to make sure we have the strongest end to the season and I can sign off as a coach on a high note with playoff grand final win.”
