WARRINGTON boxer Nathan “The Wire” Wheatley says he is still in shock about getting a place on the undercard of a world title unification fight.

The 27-year-old from Padgate will fight at the Manchester Arena on September 24 on a bill headlined by Anthony Crolla’s WBA, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine lightweight world title clash with Venezuelan Jorge Linares.

Middleweight Wheatley, who has a perfect record of four wins from four paid fights, is yet to discover his opponent for the fight but says he is “made up” to be on the bill.

“I still can’t believe it if I’m being honest,” he said.

“Getting that call was just unbelievable. I’m so excited and made up to be boxing on such a big show.

“I can’t thank Eddie Hearn and Matchroom enough for this chance. I’ve already managed to sell 100 of my tickets!”

Wheatley impressed in sparring sessions overseen by Crolla’s trainer Joe Gallagher and says that was where his grand opportunity first came about.

“I went down to spar with a few of Joe’s guys and handled myself quite well, so I was invited down for some more,” he said.

“Eventually, Joe thought I could handle a spot on the Crolla card and the wheels were put in motion.

“It’s another four-round contest as it’s my first time on such a big stage. All being well we will make the step up to six rounds in November.”
