WARRINGTON Rowing Club continued their fine recent form with a record performance at the British Rowing Junior National Championships at the weekend.

The club returned from the event in Nottingham with two gold medals along with two silvers to finish in the top three in the overall medal table.

Pippa Curran and Lucy Stanhope, who formed part of the junior women’s quad team that performed so well at the Henley Royal Regatta, were also in action in the junior doubles and their gold-winning performance earned them international selection.

In a field of 40 crews, the pair made a slow start in the preliminary stages but grew in confidence as the weekend wore on.

They were ranked second to Norwich going into the final but they blew the competition apart with a superb display to storm to the gold medal.

The win also earned them the chance to represent England at the Home Countries International Regatta in Cardiff this weekend.

Another highlight was the performance of the boys’ junior 16 quad, who came away with a superb gold medal.

The team of Matt Baguley, Tom Carrol, Conner Guerin and Alastair Eaves were rewarded for their hard work in a tough boot camp over the past two weeks with coaches Dave Jordan and Pete Tamblin.

They made their mark on their event by comfortably seeing off the challenge of London’s Globe Rowing Club to secure the top prize.

Stanhope was also in action in the women’s junior 18 quad alongside Pippa Harris, Ayesha Wooler and Rachel Ozsanslav-Harris against 15 of the best crews in the country.

Despite two of their star performers, Lucy Glover and Ellie Davies, being unavailable due to international selection trials, the group stepped up to the plate but were just unable to edge out eventual winners Gloucester and had to settle for a silver medal.

Ozsanslav-Harris then teamed up with Kaya Saccheri to race in the junior 16 doubles and they made it through a field of 30 crews to reach the A final.

A tight race followed with Henley Rowing Club, with Warrington pulling clear of the the field but in the end they were reeled back in and it was another silver medal for the girls.
