WOLVES boss Tony Smith says he is happy with the progress his team are making as the Super 8s draw nearer.

Saturday’s game against Huddersfield Giants is the last of Super League’s regular round games before the competition splits.

Wolves are guaranteed a top-three finish ahead of the next stage after last week’s win at Castleford, but Smith says they cannot look any further than the clash with the league’s bottom side at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“We feel that we’ve progressed in the last couple of weeks in some aspects of our game, there’s still some areas that we’ll always be striving to improve on but I thought there was improvement again on the previous week,” he said.

“We were able to support each other well and I really liked the way we played attack wise against Castleford.

“Both our hookers are very effective at the moment and if you throw in people like Stefan Ratchford, Matty Russell and Chrissy Sandow on top of that, it makes you a dangerous team but we can’t take that for granted.

“We’ve already been turned over once by Huddersfield this year. Their new coach has been pretty critical of them in the media this week so you’d expect a response from their players in the way they perform.

“We’re expecting a tough game but we’re happy to have one of those and we want to impose our own tough game on them.

“They will be a tough nut to crack but these are the sort of games you want leading into the Super 8s – you want tough games.”

Meanwhile, Wolves’ under 19s side are also in action on Saturday as they travel to face St Helens at Langtree Park, kick off noon.
