CARL Harrison’s late session at Rixton Clay Pits last Thursday was a productive one, ending with five tench and 10 bream caught on feeder and with pellet as hook bait.

He even managed to hook a pike on a worm oil-soaked pellet, but its teeth cut through his hook length.

Eric Smith had a decent day at Cicely Mill Pool on Sunday, landing around 30-35lb of fish during an 11-hour stint.

His catch consisted of four crucians, with a best of 2-9-0, a 4lb tench, three bream of a similar size, two hybrids and a perch that came in at 2-3-0.

Alan Birchall led the field by a clear margin when securing first prize in our Mersey Series match on Saturday, doubling his previous week’s weight.

His net, fished using pole and maggot, contained four skimmers to 12oz, perch, and roach for a tally of 10-14-0.

Ant Higham, the King of the River, recorded a second victory of the season in our Mersey Series match on Sunday with a net consisting of 10 skimmers to 2lbs, plus roach and perch taken with groundbait feeder and maggot.

A change of venue to the River Mersey at Kingsway allotments saw Jimmy Byrne chalk up a win in our disabled and over 60s match.

His haul was lighter than others in matches at the weekend; a mixed net of roach and perch weighing 6-7-0.

Weights returned to normal during our Woodshaw Junior Summer League on Monday, which was won by Scott Roberts.

His catch, weighing 14-6-0, was taken on pole-fished maggot.

As well as increasing his overall points tally, he enjoyed a bonus of winning the Harold Smith Cup.
