THE return of Mike Cooper to Warrington Wolves has been hailed as “a fantastic signing” by England teammate Ben Currie.

The former Latchford Albion junior will re-join the club he left in 2014 from St George Illawarra Dragons from next season.

Currie played sporadically with Cooper during his first spell at Wolves but says he can’t wait to link up with the versatile forward again.

“I’ve seen a couple of his games over there and spent some time with him in the England camp and watched him play there,” he said.

“He’s a fantastic signing for us and it will beef our middle pack even more, we’re looking very solid up front for next year.

“I was only a young fringe player when he was here last so I didn’t get too much chance to play with him.

“I wouldn’t have said he was a stand-out player back then but he’s gone to Australia and developed his game so that he comes back of one of the top English players.”

Currie, who is Wolves’ top try scorer so far with 14 in all competitions, has earned rave reviews for his performances this season as he continues to develop.

He has been tipped for a move down under in the future, but the second rower says he is happy at The Wire.

“It’s a possibility, everything is an option but I only signed up with Warrington last year,” he said.

“I’ve got three more years after this one and I’m very happy here so I’m looking forward to the future here.”

Currie is likely to be in the Wolves side that faces off against Catalans Dragons tonight as they look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Hull FC last week.

The 22-year-old says the state of this year’s table is symptomatic of how open the competition is.

“The top four are starting to pull away from fifth place a bit but we’re all beating each other,” he said.

“You can win or lose two games in a row and you’re either going up or down four positions it shows how tight it is at the top of the league.”
