WARRINGTON Athletics Club enjoyed a superb afternoon on home turf at the Cheshire Schools Championship on Saturday, scooping an amazing 12 gold medals.

Athletes from the club also took home five silvers and five bronzes at Victoria Park as they tested themselves against the county’s best.

The boys led the way with nine golds, including a double gold from Ben Sutcliffe in the senior boys 110m hurdles and triple jump.

Cameron Meakin was also a double medallist as he won the long jump and took silver behind Sutcliffe in the hurdles In the junior boys section, there were championship best performances from Josh Herrington and Fisayo Williamson-Taylor in the high jump and 100m respectively while Joe Williams won the 80m hurdles and Jamie Pickett took the 200m title.

Ethan Baird won the 100m hurdles, with Tom Baines (400m) and Sam Rostron (3000m) completed the boys’ gold medal haul.

Silver medals came from Sam Evans and Jack Stubbings in the junior 1500m, in which Jordan Jones took bronze, and intermediate 1500m respectively.

The girls were equally successful as Megan Kettle won the intermediate hammer title with a championship best performance while Lauren Ferris won the intermediate 1500m.

Elizabeth Wright and Rebecca Hardy brought home silver medals in the 300m and 300m hurdles respectively, while Eve Lloyd took bronze in the hurdles behind Hardy.

Eleanor Hough also won bronze in the intermediate 200m, as did Hannah Shaw in the intermediate triple jump and Isabelle Trevithick in the intermediate 3000m.
