WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s James Gladman is celebrating breaking a club record for the third time in the space of a week after he raced in Belgium over the weekend.

Gladman travelled across the Channel to compete in the International Flanders Athletics Meeting at Oordegem, finishing fourth in the C race against international opposition in 47.44secs.

That exceeded the mark of 47.67secs he set in winning the Loughborough Students AC Open last Wednesday, which in turn broke the club record of 47.80secs he achieved at the same track just three days earlier.

The club were also successful at the Youth Development League match held at Ashton under Lyne, recording six A victories and three B wins in poor weather conditions.

In the girls section, Ashley Nemits won the 800m in 2mins 30.8secs, while Meg Corker set a new personal best in winning the 70m hurdles in 12secs.

The club’s under 15s boys were very successful and there were wins for Josh Herrington (200m A, 25.2secs), Sam Evans (1500m A, 4mins 28.7secs), Joe Williams (high jump A, 1.65m and 80m hurdles A, 12.6secs) and Lucas Hayes (800m B, 2mins 24.5secs.) In the under 13s age group, Jadon Allen won the long jump A (4.32m) and the 200m B in 29.4secs.

Meanwhile, two runners from the club travelled to Watford to compete in the British Milers Club event on May 28, with Matt Wigelsworth finishing 7th in the 1500m D race, while Katie Lowery came home tenth in the women's B race over the same distance.
