WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse is looking forward to a “blockbuster” game as his side face local rivals Crosfields in a top-of-the-table showdown this evening, Thursday.

Rovers’ home victory over Waterhead Warriors on Saturday, coupled with Soap’s win on the road at Eastmoor Dragons, means the sides occupy the top two positions in the National Conference League Division Three going into the game at Monks Sports Club, kick-off 7:30pm.

Should they get their seventh consecutive victory, Rovers would close to within a point of their visitors with a game in hand.

The game has been moved forward to avoid a clash with Super League’s Magic Weekend and Fieldhouse says everyone at the club is looking forward to the game.

“These are the type of games we want to be involved in,” he said.

“It is a local derby and both teams are riding high at the top of the league so it should be an absolute blockbuster of a game.”

Whilst maintaining his confidence about winning the game, Fieldhouse warned his players about concentrating for the full 80 minutes if they are to beat their near neighbours.

“We know that Crosfields have been in fine form so far and we cannot afford to switch off like we have been guilty of in our last few games,” he said.

“We played really well once again for sixty minutes on Saturday but put the cue in the rack and allowed Waterhead back into the game.

“We put ourselves under needless pressure in the closing stages but thankfully we had enough about us to see the game out.

“We are aware of the threats Crosfields possess across the park but we have plenty of quality in our ranks so we are confident that if we play to our full potential then we will have a great chance of getting the right result.”
