Castleford Panthers 22 Rylands Sharks 58

RYLANDS Sharks continued where they left off last week a crushing win at Castleford Panthers to move them into the play-off place in the club’s first NCL Season.

The first 15 minutes were not all plain sailing for the Sharks as ill-discipline meant Castleford flew out of the blocks, scoring 12unanswered points before the visitors had even touched the ball.

Once Rylands did get hold of the ball, they made it count with 28 unanswered points through Aaron Holliday, Nick Braide, Luke Walker, Tony Doyle and Gavin Conroy to put the Sharks 28-12 in front at the break.

And the pressure didn’t let up there as Rylands continued to canter away in the second half, posting another 6 unanswered tries through Braide, Holliday, Doyle, Luke Gillooley and Conroy, who completed his hat trick.

Gillooley added six conversions, but the hosts did rally late on with two tries in the final 10 minutes to give the score line a little more respectability, but it was to be the visitors’ day and head coach Matt Wilson praised the way his side performed for the majority of the game.

“We started slowly and didn’t finish the game all to hot either, but the middle 55-60 minutes of the game were excellent,” he said.

“We have found a way of playing that suits us and that was always going to be the key with such a new team, we came away today without 6 regular first-teamers but the players coming in bought into our process and that shows what strength in depth we have and that the players are now starting to buy into it.”
