THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Jordan Jones from Grappenhall smashed his own course record to win the Whitley 3-mile fun run on Sunday.

The Warrington Athletics Club runner came home in 16 minutes 37 seconds, taking almost a minute off the record he set last year.

Three Warrington AC athletes in total took park, with Jordan’s ten-year-old sister Jasmine was the third girl home in a time of 22 minutes 20 seconds, some 33 seconds behind nine-year-old Molly Wormald, who was the first girl to cross the finish line in 21 minutes 47 seconds.

Elsewhere, Warrington’s Matt Wigelsworth was in action at the British Universities Championships in Bedford over the Bank Holiday weekend.

He came home fifth in his 1500m heat, but his time of 4 minutes 04.34 seconds saw him qualify for the semi-finals as a fastest loser.

He was slightly quicker in the semis, coming home in 4 minutes 04.27 seconds, but his 11th place finish was not enough to get him into the final.
