WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s Nick Jones reigned supreme as he added three more Northern Masters titles to his burgeoning collection.

The 42-year-old from Grappenhall won gold in the V40 category of the 800m, 1500m and 3000m races at the Northern Masters Track Championships at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, May 1.

This means Jones is now the current V40 Northern Masters champion in an astonishing eight events as he already held the titles in the 5000m, road 5km, road 10km, road 10 miles and cross country.

Athletic success clearly runs in the Jones family as Nick’s 13-year-old son Jordan smashed his personal best in the mid-Cheshire 5km road race in Kingsley last Thursday evening.

He came home in 16 minutes 59 seconds, the fifth fastest 5km time run in the Under-15 age group in Great Britain this year.

Nick also competed in the race and overcame illness to finish in a season-best time of 16 minutes 6 seconds, meaning he is now ranked fifth in the British V40 age group in 2016.

Warrington Athletic Club's Jack Green also ran superbly to finish in a personal best time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds,  and Jennifer Smith ran an excellent race to finish in 20 minutes and 12 seconds.

Nick, Jordan, Jack and Jennifer are all coached by Philip Hicken.
