AN ARMY of Warrington Wolves fans will be heading over the Pennines tomorrow night to see their side kick off the new season at reigning champions Leeds Rhinos – but what do you do if you’re left behind because you weren’t lucky enough to get an early escape from work?

If you can’t make it to Headingley tomorrow night we’ve put together a list of our favourite pubs to watch the match in when we can’t be there.

Where will you be watching the big game from? Let us know by commenting below.

Warrington Guardian:

The King’s Head, Winwick Street – A hugely-popular haunt on match day, the King’s Head’s controversial but much-loved ‘shed’ is also a great place to watch Wires on the telly. The pub’s huge conservatory is adorned with primrose and blue flags and has as big a screen as any to watch the action on.

Warrington Guardian:

The Tavern, Church Street – The Tavern is surely the next best thing to standing on a packed Western Terrace at Headingley – plus you have the added benefit of avoiding the inevitable drenching when watching on from the uncovered away end. With great beer on draught, an intimate inside area and a lively outdoor terrace decorated with the heroes of yesteryear, the pub has an atmosphere rivalled only by the real match day experience when Warrington are live under the Sky cameras.

Warrington Guardian:

The Lord Rodney, Winwick Road – The closest pub to the Halliwell Jones Stadium and the closest to the hearts of many fans, the Lord Rodney is also an ideal place to catch the game on the box. Like the King’s Head, it is handily situated just a short stroll from the bus station and a few pints in the Rodney before catching the 18E at 23.29 seems like a very good idea for any Wire who can’t make it to Leeds.

The Rope and Anchor, Manchester Road – The open top bus parades following the club’s recent Challenge Cup wins passed by the Rope and Anchor on their way to the Town Hall, so it is apt that it’s also a top spot for watching the game. It’s also ideal for a quick frame at half time.

Warrington Guardian:

The Mulberry Tree, London Road – One for Wires living south of the Mersey, the Mulberry Tree is the place to catch the match if you’re watching on from Stockton Heath.

Warrington Guardian:

The Farmer’s Arms, Fearnhead Lane – One of the best watering holes on the east side of Warrington is also one of the town’s best places to watch sports from. Throw an excellent beer garden (although it presumably won’t be too well used on a Thursday night in February) and pool tables in to the mix and you’ve got a great place to cheer on Tony Smith’s men from.

The Seven Woods, Westbrook Crescent – With a decent bit of pub grub and a busy sports section of the pub, the Seven Woods also boasts a few great ales on draught and a heated outside area with a TV to make the match day experience that bit more authentic.
