LEE Latham and his five-year-old son Jay enjoyed a drop-shotting session on the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook this week.

As I chatted to his dad, the youngster was expertly casting across to the far bank’s overhanging bushes and had already caught a perch and a pike.

At the final count Lee had three perch to 8ozs whereas Jay was on fire, ending up with eight perch and two pike – and lost a bigger one at the net when the hook pulled out.

The remainder of our carp order is being delivered tomorrow, Friday, kicking off at Grey Mist Mere around where there will be a small top-up of C4 ‘black mirror babies’ – the result of rescued spawn from Colne Mere Lake before it was polluted, killing everything including the famous 50lb black mirror.

The recent new stock has encouraged the resident carp to start feeding as reports are filtering through of some decent sessions.

There is a working party on Saturday on the Mist. Meet on the car park at 10am.

Our Saturday Series on the Mersey was cancelled at the weekend due to adverse conditions but our Christmas Match on Sunday went ahead with 19 anglers taking part.

Bob Clough fished a ground-bait feeder and maggot to catch two skimmers to 1.5lbs, along with three roach for a weight of 3-2-0.

Norman Gannon, fishing the same method, had a single skimmer of 1-7-0 and lost an even bigger fish.

Following Lenny Dutton’s win last week at our Disabled and Over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal, the change of venue this week to the Trent and Mersey saw him notch up another – albeit shared with Alan Brown.

Anglers really struggled for bites following heavy frost. Lenny and Alan managed to keep ahead with the lowest winning catch so far this year of 8ozs 6drs.

Email catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or you can call me on 01928 716238. Our headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open Fridays 7pm to 9pm for subscriptions, memberships/night permits, and queries.
