WARRINGTON Town are bidding to pull off another shock this Saturday.

Conference North Division side AFC Fylde visit Cantilever Park in the FA Trophy third qualifying round, kick off 3pm, and Shaun Reid’s team will take to the field in buoyant mood, not only from current form but with hearts still warmed by their stunning FA Cup run of last season that included giant-killings against North Ferriby and Exeter City.

Reid, whose outfit remain level on points with Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Northwich after a 3-0 defeat of fellow high flyers Glossop at the weekend, is hoping for a bumper crowd to help roar his men into Monday’s draw.

“We go into this game on the back of five matches without conceding a goal,” said Reid, whose Yellows had a third scheduled visit to Ramsbottom United in the Doodson Cup on Tuesday night postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

“So confidence is very high and so it should be after last Saturday’s performance.

“We go into the Trophy game as underdogs given Fylde’s position in the Conference North Division – and they are a well organised side.

“History from last season, however, shows that cup competitions are a one-off and we’re going out there with only one thing in mind and that is to give everything and hopefully be in the draw on Monday for the next round with the chance of meeting a National League side.

“We are scoring goals and keeping clean sheets so with no injuries and a full squad to choose from we are well placed to pull off a shock against a side 40 places higher up the ladder.

“It will also give me and the chairman a chance to see how we compare against a very strong team and see how far we have come in the last 18 months.

“I’d really love the people of Warrington to get behind us as they were the difference against North Ferriby and Exeter City last season. Our support is growing and the more people we get behind us the stronger we will be.”

There was a healthy turnout of 432 fans at Saturday's top-of-the-table clash at Cantilever Park.

Glossop, starting the game two points behind Town, were put to the sword by two early goals and a third on the stroke of half time.

And such was the strength of Yellows' rearguard, little threat was offered by the visitors.

For the first goal, Chris Gahgan was alert to bury the rebound after Scott Metcalfe’s shot was parried by the keeper.

The second goal came on 18 minutes, Danny Ventre’s in-swinging corner headed home by Ben Deegan.

Metcalfe should have made it three when he latched on to Burke’s through ball off Deegan’s header down, only to be denied by a smothering save by the goalkeeper.

He did eventually find the net though, striking a sweet left-foot volley across the keeper after a ball across the box by Burke.

It virtually put paid to the game as a contest, and the second half passed without much action of note.
