JESSE Lingard was part of an England squad that welcomed France at Wembley last night in an emotional friendly fixture.
The Manchester United forward, who grew up in Longford, will have to wait for his first taste of senior international football, but will have gained valuable experience from being part of Roy Hodgson’s squad.
Lingard was named on the bench, but was an unused substitute in a game that will be remembered more for the signs of solidarity shown by fans, players and staff alike than for England’s 2-0 win.
The 22-year-old was called up over the weekend after injuries to Michael Carrick and Jamie Vardy, having impressed for Louis van Gaal’s side in recent outings.
The Warrington-born youngster scored against West Brom in the Premier League and won plaudits for his performance in the Champions League against CSKA Moscow.
