Morpeth Ladies 2 Lymm Ladies 2

A SECOND long-haul away trip for Lymm took them back to the North East.

But it showed no ill effects as the whistle went and for the first time this season Lymm's bright start was rewarded with a goal. A smart near-post finish from mid Hollie Acklam.

Having got the lead Lymm committed the cardinal sin of allowing the opposition to hit back fast and Morpeth equalised almost immediately.

The game remained open and yet hotly contested, both sides creating chances but Lymm deserved the lead when Nat Riley put them another goal ahead.

Back came Morpeth and just before half time they were awarded a generous penalty flick. Up stepped GK Amy Heywood to make a brilliant diving save and Lymm remained 2-1 at halftime.

Morpeth began the second half strongly and it was no surprise when a well-worked penalty corner routine bagged them the equaliser.

As in the first half, the game was an even contest, both teams having opportunities to win but in the end both deserved not to lose. Youngster Izzy Plumb was named player of the game.

As always when these two teams meet it was a hard-fought, fast game with some quality hockey from both sides.

Despite a lot of leg work and some good one-two passing between the players on the home team, they found themselves 1-0 down to the league leaders at half time.

The Lymm side continued to battle in the second half with some fast paced hockey but luck was not on their side as a Neston shot deflected off a defender’s stick and neatly tipped into their own goal past the Lymm keeper.

At the other end there was more frustration as what appeared to be a goal from a well-worked team attack up the pitch from defence was then disallowed.

Opposition player of the match was Ruby Kelly.
