WARRINGTON Wolves were among the winners at tonight’s Man of Steel Awards, although shortlisted Ben Currie missed out on the Super League Young Player of the Year honour.

Back rower Currie, Wolves’ top try scorer with 19 in 2015 and a tip for an England call-up, was pipped by Wigan stand off George Williams, whose teammate Joe Burgess was also in the three-man shortlist.

The Steve Prescott Man of Steel winner was confirmed as Leeds Rhinos full back Zak Hardaker.

Both of those awards were last year won by Wolves’ current number nine, Daryl Clark.

Wolves enjoyed a successful night at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.

They were crowned Super League Foundation Club of the year for the second ceremony in a row.

Also at the event, former Wolves prop forwards Adrian Morley and Garreth Carvell were among the retiring players receiving outstanding contribution awards for making more than 200 appearances.

Both were key men in the Wolves squads that won the Challenge Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2012, the League Leaders’ Shield in 2011 and Grand Finalists in 2012 and 2013.

Leeds Rhinos took the title of Super League Club of the Year, while their former international prop forward Brian McDermott was named Super League Coach of the Year.

Other awards were handed out to Saints prop Alex Walmsley as Super League’s top metre maker in 2015 – an award Wolves’ Matty Russell won last year – plus Hull’s Danny Houghton as top tackler, Huddersfield’s Jermaine McGilvary as top try scorer and Leeds’ Kevin Sinfield as top goal kicker.

And Sky Sports presenter and commentator Eddie Hemmings, a Warrington resident, was inducted to the Rugby League Roll of Honour.
