Woolston Rovers A 10 Golborne Parkside 60

ANOTHER brave display from Woolston Rovers A was not enough as they were comprehensively beaten by in-form Golborne Parkside in the NWML Division Two on Saturday at Monks Sports Club.

Golborne took the lead in the very first minute when a chip ahead on the last tackle bounced kindly into the arms of winger Geoff Jenkinson and he scored between the posts; scrum half Craig Ashall added the conversion.

Nnine minutes later slick passing saw Ashall score a try that he converted himself.

Midway through the half Golborne substitute Ross Pendlebury crashed over between the posts. Ashall converted and then just after the half hour mark second row Stuart Johnson broke through to score although the conversion was surprisingly missed.

Rovers got on the scoreboard four minutes later when great work by scrum half Olly Hands sent winger Lloyd Feather away and he put centre Chris Brown over in the right corner.

But Golborne still had time to add two more tries before the break with Jenkinson scoring on the left; Ashall converted and then straight from the restart Ashall chipped ahead and re-gathered the ball before sending Johnson away to score on the left and give the visitors a 32-4 interval lead.

Rovers scored straight at the start of the second half when superb work down the right by second row Danny Brown saw him send twin brother Chris racing away and he found Feather on his outside to score wide out on the right.

Full back Dominic Ball converted, but seven minutes later Golborne substitute Stuart Pirrie scored in the right corner.

Golborne’s next try came when Ashall scored and then almost immediately Johnson went over to complete his hat-trick.

Ashall converted both tries and then in the final couple of minutes Golborne stand-off Andy Bennett scored on the right and Pirrie went over for his second try right on time.

Ashall again added both conversions to make the final score 60-10 in Golborne’s favour.

Best for Rovers were second row pair Danny Brown and Jake Bennicke, scrum half Olly Hands and centre Chris Brown.
