A WARRINGTON schoolgirl is set to represent England at the EU Nations Women's Water Polo Cup this week – and possibly become the youngest player at the tournament in Prague.

Along with her England teammates, Molly Boniface-Ashton will face Scotland, Denmark, Slovakia and Germany in the Czech Republic this week with a hope of qualifying for Sunday's finals.

But at age 13, the Birchwood Community High School student is the youngest member of the under 17s squad.

“We think she might the youngest in the competition," said mum Joanne Boniface.

The Warrington Water Polo and Swimming Club member only took up the sport three years ago, but is now a part of Liverpool's open age National League squad and captain of the North West under 14s regional side.

The centre forward prepared for the tournament during an England Talent National Training Camp at Millfield School, in Somerset.

But it was old neighbour and former Great Britain junior Courtney Dean that persuaded her to try water polo "Courtney said ‘swimming up and down is boring, join the water polo team!’ and Molly loved it from day one," added Joanne.

"Both Courney and brother Connor have coached Molly at some point and have been a real inspiration.

“Molly’s excited about the tournament, but was a little apprehensive for a while as she had a torn hamstring. It left her chances hanging in the balance for a bit."
