WARRINGTON'S promotion hopes were given a timely boost on Saturday when they were winners by six wickets at Brooklands.

It sees the visitors sitting second, with 14 points to spare, heading into the final two fixtures in Cheshire County League Division Two.

After the drop in form from the past two weeks Warrington invited Brooklands to bat.

The hosts could not escape the seam bowling of Nathan Green, 4 for 39, and Ashley Scholes, 3 for 37, as they posted a defendable total of 168 all out.

With a steady opening partnership of 32 between Mal Agar, 64, and Tom Clutterbuck, 16, Adam Green, 57, laid the foundation with a second-wicket stand of 86 enabling Warrington to coast home to a six-wicket victory.

The seconds also faced Brooklands, coming out with a draw.

Brooklands batted well against the Warrington opening attack with Ryan Swart, 1 for 26, claimed an early victim. But only when spin bowlers Rishav Manta, 2 for 52, and Phil Whelan, 3 for 28, arrived did Warrington gain some control as Brooklands closed on 218 for 7.

Openers Simon Swain, 64, and Tim Rothwell, 22, had Warrington off to a steady start with Tom Higham, 39, laying a good foundation but a middle order collapse had the visitors in trouble.

A late order rally from Ryan Swart, 21, and Billy Gilbert, 22, brought them close but Warrington had to settle for a draw with one wicket left on 196 for 9.

Warrington thirds scraped home with a draw against Neston.

Neston’s batsmen dominated the early part of the match as they posted 240 for 8.

Tom Fagan-Hall, 4 for 31, and Allister Begg, 2 for 22, the hosts' best.

A watchful innings of 15 not out from Harley Barrett allowed Warrington to salvage a draw at 79 for 9.

Put in to bat openers, fourths' openers Dave Lee (54) and Appu (34) made a solid start of 84.

Arshan Dadrewalla, 82 not out, with a personal best added 118 for the second wicket as Warrington closed on 237for 4.

Ashley could never match the run rate of Warrington as Jon Burgess 4 for 8 held them in check, but Ashley settled for a draw from an early stage of the match.
