RISING Warrington gymnastics star Lucy Stanhope says it would be a dream come true to win a medal in Georgia.

The 13-year-old will represent Team GB in the European Youth Olympic Festival that starts on Sunday.

Bridgewater High School student Stanhope, who was eighth at the British Championships and fifth at the English Championships, wants to use the experience to propel her to even greater achievements.

“I think going to Georgia to compete is going to be a really brilliant experience and is a big achievement for me at this stage,” she said.

“If I am honest I was not expecting to make the team but it was really nice when I found out that I was going.

“I have never done anything quite like this before so it is really exciting and I think I can learn a lot from it.

“It’s a great opportunity to see what the standard is like among other people my age and test myself against them as well.

“The main thing for me is to go out there and try to enjoy it and do my best. I think that’s the most important thing.”

While Stanhope knows a medal will be a difficult feat to achieve in Tbilisi she is not ruling out the possibility just yet.

She says it would mean the world to be able to come home having outperformed some of the stars of tomorrow.

“It’s a sport I love and I always get myself motivated to train and work hard so hopefully that can pay off," she added.

“If I was to go there and win a medal then I think it would be a dream come true.

“I think that these competitions are really important for kids my age because it gives us the chance to improve and get used to big competitions.

“My dream is to compete in the Olympics for Great Britain and hopefully it will come true.”
