WARRINGTON Wolves Under 19s gave a spirited performance but were unable to overcome a very strong Hull FC side in the Under 19s Academy on Saturday at Victoria Park Arena.

Wolves dominated the opening exchanges but Hull FC had a purple patch that saw them score four quick tries to pull away and despite a glimmer of a fightback at the beginning of the second half it was ultimately not enough.

Head coach Lee Briers said: “We started brightly and deserved to be ahead but a ten minute spell where Hull FC scored four tries while we only had the ball once proved crucial.

"We said at half time that we were still in with a shout and we started the second half brightly but a couple of errors proved costly and Hull FC made us pay.

"They were a very good side and deserved to win."

Briers picked out strong performers.

"I thought Daniel Murray was immense once again, Sam Wilde put in a very impressive eighty minute effort and Andy Philbin came off the bench and really made an impact,” he said.

Charlie Phythian, Daniel Murray and Am Wilde scored tries.

Briers said the team will aim to bounce back against Castlford Tigers at Crosfields ARLFC on Saturday, kick off noon.

"We will keep working hard in training," he said.
