NICK Jones scooped a gold medal in the Northern Veterans Championship at Leigh Sports Village last week.

The Warrington Athletics Club runner won the men's 3,000m over 40s age group in a Championship best time nine minutes 29 seconds.

Teammate David Gill won the over 55s age group in 11mins 16secs.

He was also competing in the 400m hurdles, 800m and 1,500m, taking gold in all three in respective times of 83secs, 2mins 37secs and 5mins 20secs.

Gill was not finished there, he also put in a silver-medal performance in the 400m with a time of 68.9secs.

In the women’s events, Julie Hicken won the gold medal in the over 50s 300m hurdles with a time of 62.8 secs, the 100m in 15.1secs and the 200m 31.8secs.

Two more Warrington Athletics Club athletes were in action on the same weekend, racing in the Loughborough International Match as guests at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.

In a guest race over 400m hurdles James Webster finished in third place in 53.95secs.

In the match women’s 3,000 metres, promising teenager Harriet Knowles-Jones was also competing as a guest. She finished in seventh place in 9mins 40.43secs.
