MOVING to England will not be as ‘alien’ to Warrington Wolves’ new signing Kurt Gidley as it has been for some imports before him.

He has made three previous visits to the country – once with his club Newcastle Knights, once with the Australian national team and once on his own steam.

Gidley was on the left wing for the Knights team that lost 41-26 to Bradford Bulls in Huddersfield in the World Club Challenge of 2002.

He toured with the Kangaroos for the 2009 Four Nations Series and impressed at centre off the bench as Australia defeated England in the final at Elland Road, Leeds.

Gidley said: “I’ve always enjoyed my stints over there.

“I went to visit my brother Matt for a month when he was playing for St Helens (2007-10).”

But for all his experience, he has not had to settle into a new club since first signing professional with hometown club Newcastle Knights, where he has played his entire NRL career.

“That’s part of my decision to come over,” said Gidley.

“I’m coming off contract at Newcastle this year and I just knew the time was right to move on.

“I didn’t want to stand in the way of some younger guys there being re-signed, but I also know the time was right for a new challenge and I’ve never backed away from any challenges in my life.

“Certainly I enjoy training, I enjoy different environments and it’s certainly going to be different.

“I love playing at stadiums new to me and I’ve heard the facilities and the fans at Warrington are great.

“It’ll be up to me with how I respond to new teammates, a new club and new surroundings, and I only know one way and that’s to attack it 100 percent.”

Gidley joins Wolves on a one-year contract with a one-year option from 2016.
