JOHN Fieldhouse is calling for his Woolston Rovers side to be fully committed when they Stanningley on Saturday.

Rovers will have to put in a much-improved showing against the current unbeaten league leaders than they did last Saturday when they suffered a home defeat against Dewsbury Moor Maroons.

Head coach Fieldhouse said: “We are very disappointed with our display against Dewsbury.

“Even though we were level at half time our poor completion rate of 45 per cent in the first half took a lot of energy out of the side. Even though that improved to 68 per cent in the second half, the first 40 minutes took its toll and we were playing catch up rugby league and got what we deserved.

“We now have plenty of hard work to do in training this week to turn things around ahead of our trip to Stanningley.

“The players must get back to the structures we put in place and show the same desire that we had when we won at Drighlington.

“Nothing less than full commitment will be required for us to get back to winning ways.”

The coach leaves Monks Sports Club at 11.30am. Contact Nikki on 07889 170895 for details.

Meanwhile, Rovers A host Bury Broncos in the NWML Trophy first round on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

They will also be looking to bounce back from a defeat last weekend; they were narrowly beaten 26-22 at Oldham St Annes A but took plenty of positives from a game that saw them fight back from 16-0 down after 20 minutes to take a 22-20 lead, before conceding a late converted try that cost them victory.

A team coach Andy Addison was very happy with the way his team fought back after the opening quarter.

He said: “We started slowly and allowed St Annes to build up a big lead but the way the lads got back into the game was very pleasing.

“We played some really good rugby and just came up short.

“We will now build on the last hour and make sure we start strongly this coming weekend against Bury.

“Cup games are always a welcome distraction from league action and we will be going all out to get a win that would put us into the last eight.

“We have some really good players who are pushing for selection in the NCL side and this will be another game for them to put their claims forward.”

Woolston are still looking for new players that would like to compete for places in the Open Age sides. Anyone interested should contact John Fieldhouse on 07834 412724.
