LEE Briers is confident Warrington Wolves under 19s’ impressive performances are a result of their hard work on the training ground.

Wolves beat Leeds Rhinos under 19s 34-20 in the Academy League on Thursday thanks to tries from David Foggin-Johnston, Jack Fox, Toby King, Harvey Livett, Brad Stanway and a Jack Johnson.

That made it successive wins in the Academy League for Briers’ side, who beat Hull KR a week previous.

“That was a very special performance from the guys; we are improving as a team week by week and it is great to see,” he said.

“They are growing in confidence and really bearing the fruits of their hard labour. The way that they are working hard for each other is great and they are now looking like a proper team.

“They really deserve great credit and they are now starting to really believe the things that we are doing in training are working out on the pitch but we won’t get carried away.

“The half back pair of Brad Stanway and Morgan Smith were both outstanding and really bossed us around the field; Jack Johnson was superb at full back, James Jones was immense in the second row and Pat Moran had a massive impact when he was introduced from the substitutes bench.

“It was also good to welcome back Sam Wilde and Toby King after injury.

“We now look forward to another mouth-watering game next Saturday when we entertain St Helens.”

Wolves face St Helens, kick off 11am, at The Halliwell Jones Stadium as a curtain raiser to the senior team’s Super League clash with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

“It would be great if the fans could get down early and give us their support,” added Briers.
