TONY Smith says Huddersfield Giants’ Danny Brough ‘kicked his side to death’ as Warrington Wolves slipped to defeat in Super League Round Seven on Friday.

Wolves suffered a 29-10 defeat at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with their scores coming in the second half through Gareth O’Brien and Kevin Penny.

And Smith felt the Huddersfield half back was the difference as Wolves suffered their first defeat to Huddersfield since April 2011.

“Absolutely, 100 per cent, he kicked us to death,” said Smith. “It was a masterclass of a kicking game.

“The three tries, kicks, and he just made a huge difference in the game the way he finished their sets for them.

“We put some pressure on him and almost got a couple of charge downs, but they bounced the other way.

“There was a massive difference between us in terms of the kicking game, but other than that there wasn’t much difference.”

Daryl Clark’s pass was intercepted as Jermaine McGillvary added a late try, followed by a barge over from close range for Eorl Crabtree.

“I can understand an intercept at the end, trying to get two tries in a short period, so nothing against Clarky on that one, but a soft little barge over try topped it off,” added Smith.

“We lacked patience in that first half and didn’t build a game for ourselves. When you run into touch off a first tackle from a scrum, those sort of things can be excused if you’re doing other things exceptionally well.

“But we weren’t doing things exceptionally well.”

Smith also says Wolves will take each game as it comes over the hectic Easter schedule, with Widnes Vikings up first on Thursday.

“We’ll only be playing one of those games at a time, so we only need to address things before the next one,” said Smith.

“It’s a big week, we’ll get on top of that and make sure we finish our sets on a whole lot higher note.”

But Gary Wheeler could be a doubt for those Easter fixtures.

“He’s had a reoccurrence of an injury, we thought he was going to be right for tonight but he had a scare with it," added Smith.
